"From our initial visit and throughout our professional relationship, I view each woman first as a person, then as a patient," says Dr. Martin, who has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Laguna Hills for more than 20 years. Dr. Martin received his medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1973, and then returned to his native California to complete his internship and residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Dr. Martin is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
In recent years, he has served as chief of the department of Obstetrics/Gynecology and as a member of the Credentials and Executive Committees at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.
He believes that patients want and are entitled to expect a competent and caring physician. "Good medical care, now more than ever, must be a partnership between an informed patient and a skilled doctor who sees each patient and her family as unique," he says. "This is an ideal community in which to practice medicine. Women tend to be attentive to their health, keep informed about their medical options and seek a relationship with their doctor that is both candid and compassionate."
Dr. Martin's longevity in the community has brought the special satisfaction of seeing many women transition from single life to marriage, and then to motherhood. Sometimes that satisfaction has included caring for more than one generation within a family. "When a baby is added to any family, it never ceases to be exciting. The birth process is such a miracle," he says. "One's sense of history with each family is felt throughout this special event, and through my years involved with their care.
Dr. Martin lives locally with his his wife of 36 years, Gillian. They have twin daughters, Allison and Melissa, and two grandchildren, Grace and Drew
